A wolf is one of the strongest symbols of woodland adventure and cross-Canada hiking, and the Howl puts one front and center: a lone wolf throwing its head back to howl at a full moon, with a dark pine forest closing in along the bottom.

The whole scene is printed in a high-contrast, distressed style, the moon and wolf in rough white ink, the treeline in black, all of it over a real wenge backer. Because the night sky is left open, the dark wenge grain shows straight through as the sky behind the moon, so the wood itself becomes part of the scene and the grain runs a little differently on every case. The weathered, almost screen-printed texture gives it an edge that a clean digital print would not have.

Each Howl is made on a real wenge backer in our Mississauga workshop, with the design printed in high-resolution UV ink directly onto the finished, laser-cut wood. Printing onto real wenge rather than a flat panel is what lets the wood stand in for the night sky and gives the black forest its depth.
